Tragic! Maria Who Lives in the Graveyard (悲劇! 墓場の少女マリア) is the 14th episode of B't X.
Synopsis[]
Teppei and X find the next point, a graveyard where tombstones indicate that people buried there lived for over 300 years old. After a bell tolls, a mysterious girl appears and starts lighting the candles in the graveyard. She sees Teppei and X and warns them to leave immediately before the sun sets completely or else The Reaper will come for them. Teppei however, refuses to leave her behind and insists on hearing the whole story.
Immediately after the sun disappears, a swarm of B't bats come in and attack X and Teppei. X is able to subdue them by emitting a high frequency sound only destructive to other B't. As they notice that the girl is also affected by the sound, The Reaper appears. The girl, Maria explains that the Reaper is a cyborg who has now lost his humanity, but still kills humans, deeming them all disloyal to the Machine Emperor.
Maria defends Teppei.
Against the Reaper, X's sonic attack proves ineffective. When The Reaper strikes Teppei, Maria uses herself as a shield and is fatally wounded. As she lies dying, she admits to Teppei that she is actually a cyborg and that the Reaper is his brother, their bodies changed by the Machine Emperor to achieve eternal life. Maria recalls that she eventually realized that there is no such thing as eternal life when her friends, the ones buried in the graveyard, who were also cyborgs, started dying one by one in the last 300 years. When Teppei tells her that she can be fixed by replacing her robotic parts, she pleads to him to let her finally die. Before she perishes, Maria begs Teppei to save his brother.
